Jesus goes to West Hollywood

Hello soldiers! J-Crizzle here to check in and tell you about my Los Angeles wanderings. It’s 2007 and I’m sure we’re all pretty aware of the lack of “brotherhood” in today’s society. Maybe some of us are fine by that, maybe some of us miss it. I’ll admit that when I’m at Bed Bath and Beyond I’m not really interested in getting into a ten minute discussion about how my new toilet seat cover is going to accent my bathroom, and what my bathroom theme colors are (maroon and sky blue if you need to know), I’m just there to buy and get out. If there was an automatic checkout like the one at Ralph’s I’d be there and back in my car in a jiff, but no, I inevitably get stuck with the talky cashier and I stand there staring at the ATM machine saying “YES I ACCEPT, NO CASH BACK!” That’s just me saying, yes, Jesus understands that some of you might embrace the lack of brotherhood in today’s society. But you know what? Not everyone is content to live without it.

Today, while getting lost looking for Target, I stumbled upon a village that made me think of the old days, when men were there for each other, watching each other’s backs. This village was called West Hollywood. Everywhere I looked there was an abundance of male bonding. At the cafes, the burger restaurant, and even walking shirtless down the road together (after a long, hard workout I assume).

West Hollywood, the way life should be. We should look to these men for inspiration. I don’t know where their wives were, we can assume they were at home, watching the children and cooking up a stew that would be ready just in time for their husband to come home after a long day of male-bonding, maybe they were knitting a quilt that would be ready those cold LA winter days. I don’t know, but to be honest I didn’t think of women very much when I was in West Hollywood, I thought about men, men with other men, and it made me feel good.

J-Criz OUT!
