North Hollywood - Little Toni’s

OK, what you have to undestand is that I was brought up on pasta. If my husband wasn’t a cook, then I would happily boil pasta of all shapes and sizes and have an assortment of sauces (gravies for you purists) ready to go. I would eat pasta all the time and then some. I would joyously feed on nothing but carbohydrates and various forms of tomato and pesto.

I also love beer.

So what’s not to love about Little Toni’s ?

It’s open until 2 or sometimes 4am, and for an ex-New Yorker that’s a blessing. The salads are huge and most of the vegetables are fresh. The waitresses have worked there since they were sixteen. The pitchers of beer come with chilled mugs. The wine tastes like something on sale at Ralph’s, but you don’t go to Little Toni’s for class. Or wine.

You go for Ms. Pac Man. Table game, in the bar area.

You can also go to the bar and have a wonderful drink alone, or while waiting for a friend. No one else ever goes back there and they’re usually showing GOOD movies on the TV.

Which brings me to the music that is played there.

If you are around 30 years-old and haven’t heard that song from Jr. high dances since they started playing Nirvana on Classic Rock Stations, this is the place for you. You won’t love every song they play, but you’ll have a memory for each one. I have heard rumors that psychiatrists bring their patients here to unlock repressed memories.

It’s located on this crazy triangle (it FORMS the fork in the road) at that cluster f**k intersection where Vineland and Lankershim meet. There’s no way to get there, really, without doing something illegal.

So the next time you feel like throwing caution to the wind and indulging in some good ‘ol “Oh, this is the song that was playing when I gave head for the first time,” go to Little Toni’s. Don’t drink the wine.
