I am not kidding when I say that this place is too good to believe. I moved into this apartment 2 years ago, and was immediately bombarded by advertisements for Milt ‘N Edie’s Dry Cleaning. Although dry cleaners have gone the way of the post office in my mind – too much waiting, too little service, a life choice you can do without – I had to clean up my junior year prom dress so that I could attend a formal awards ceremony. Milt ‘N Edie’s had the best coupon offer, so I went there first.
Once I navigate the parking situation (pray that you entered on the right side or you’ll be screwed and you’ll be the guy screwing everyone else), I entered what must be where Heaven gets their halos dry cleaned. There is an automatic door so your full arms don’t have to struggle with pushing or pulling. There are 8 clearly distinguishable counters. There is tea, coffee, fresh popcorn in a popcorn-maker, and often fruit and bits of cheese on toothpicks.
That’s in case you have to wait more than 20 seconds. Usually you don’t. Usually you just have to enter, and a lovely lady looks up at you, smiles, and directs you to the counter where someone is free. At the other end (oh, yes, it’s even very spacious) are 6 stations for alterations. Not the owner’s mother smooshed into a corner where you can see how horribly the clothes are kept, but 6 separate stations, a changing room so you can try it on before and after and they can fit it to you – did I mention this is free of charge? – and just very nice service.
Their alterations department is so nice that I chose M ‘N E to do my wedding dress alterations. Why pay $300 when they altered the side seam (3 layers) for only $65?
Outside (I’ll post a pic tomorrow) their marquee reads like a high-class self-help fortune cookie: “True happiness lies in helping others” & some that are more attuned to Jack Handy’s Deep Thoughts: “Life is a tragedy for those who feel, and a comedy for those who think.”
I have never had a problem there, have never witnessed anyone with a problem, and my only suggestion for these business owners is to focus on the monterey jack cheese. That goes best with their buttered popcorn.
