Brentwood - Early World

Early World may technically be in Los Angeles, being on the south side of San Vincente and all, but if you’re in and around Brentwood you may be tempted to stop in here.

First of all, the only reason I decided to go here for breakfast was because when I fly past it on my bike every day, it looks like an old school breakfast dinner with the plastic booths and vinyl table tops. When you go inside, a little of that disappears but there’s still the cash register on your way out, and a dining counter in the back.. good enough.

What is NOT good enough however, is the menu.. these prices are OUTRAGEOUS. Seriously, a standard 2 egg/toast/potatoes breakfast is like $8.00. The food in no way warrants such crazy prices. The service was good, the atmosphere was ok, but I’m not going back here ever unless they post a sign in the window that says “prices have returned to Earth.”

Rip-off World.

This place IS crazy expensive. I wish there was an actual diner around this area.

I go to Early World at least once we a week and love it every single time. I have been going there for 10 years. The food is always perfect, the service personal and warm. Yes it is more expensive than breakfast at McDonald's, or Denny's but if you want impersonal service and mediocre food, don't go to Early World go to those places. You get what you pay for. Quality food prepared properly costs money. The entire country seems to want perfection at Walmart prices and then is surprised that those around them can't seem to make a living because the people who serve you every day (restaurant employees, gas station attendants, house cleaners) can't earn enough to live off of in a city like Los Angeles. Early World is not expensive, its the value of the US dollar thats falling.

Swingers, Delores Cafe, Cafe 50's, Rae's Diner - All have better food than Early World, and with "Walmart prices."

I disagree I have found the food consistently better at Early World than the other places you have mentioned.

Swingers - I stopped going there when they never could get my order right and on multiple occasions I couldn't get them to take my order, or bring me my check in a reasonable amount of time. I don't care what the price of eggs is someplace if the service is lousy.

Cafe 50's - I lived 3 blocks away from there for 5 years. The eggs were never really very good and on the weekend the wait for the place can be an 15 min to an hour. Even though I lived in the marina for the last 5 years, I still drove to early world rather than wait in line there to have my eggs greasy.

Delores Cafe and Rae's Diner I don't go to so I won't comment.

But really the issue I raised is, can the people who work at those places make a decent living. I know for sure the people at Early World can because the same core group of staff have been there for more than 10 years. Is that true of the other places? If it is I stand corrected. If it's not, then every time you get $1.00 off your eggs maybe you are are not paying enough?

And your pallet for breakfast foods is more advanced than mine? You can attempt to be as snooty Brentwood as you want about it, but fact is, people go to the places I listed, and go back. I bike by Early World every day and it's always empty. Maybe it's the quiet you enjoy, because the food was as blah as the prices were ridiculous.

Some people are fooled into liking things because they're located in a certain neighborhood and the product has a higher price tagged to it. I find that funny and I'm glad I don't have to live with that handicap.

I love the fact that no one goes there, it gives me plenty of places to park my hummer. If you're paying under $12 for an omelet, you're a peasant.
