Tomorrow, people all over LA will be turning public parking spaces into parks as a part of Park(ing) Day LA. Park(ing) Day is an effort to increase awareness of the need for more public parks in Los Angeles, something transplants like myself
have noticed an obvious lack of (seriously, I have to park at the Grove to throw a frisbee?). Park(ing) Day LA offers people a chance to have a small park or “pocket park” in a public parking space. The landscape architects at Melendrez have created a series of “modular, or moveable objects to represent how such a space might feel and to demonstrate how individual park visitors create their own worlds within parks.” One example Melendrez will be using is a tire swing that represents the carefree way children use space.
