silverlake wineSingle? Like to drink? Live in L.A.? Annoyed with yourself on too many mornings for giving out your cell number over and over again to random Neanderthals and frat boys–cursing the dark lights and cheap hooch from the night before? Hoping to meet someone who knows that Kafka isn’t a brand of European automobile? Then check out Silverlake Wine.

Don’t worry, as the name says it’s in Silverlake. Feel free to show up in your well-worn jeans, trendy colored hoodie, or over-priced vintage t-shirt. You might want to leave the guitar case in the car, though, as this place is HOPPING during their wine tasting nights, and it can get a wee bit crowded.

In addition to being a store that offers wines from all sorts of geographies in all sorts of containers (bottles, jugs, boxes…yes, box is the new black!), they also offer wine tastings to help expand your knowledge of the wonderful fermented grape. I love wine–but in terms of Wine I.Q. I’m more Vincent Gallo than Ernest or Julio, so the regular wine tastings are helpful without making novices feel like doofuses. Depending on the day of the week, you just pay a flat $10-20, get some yummy free vittles, a few glasses of vino, and make some new friends. The usual wine tastings are…

sundays at three 3pm
blue monday 5pm-9pm
thursday night flights 5pm-9pm

and in case you are worried about classying up yourself too much (”Jeeves, please procure some watercress sandwiches for the post-Polo picnic posthaste!”), you can pop over to Cha Cha Lounge for some $3 Tecates and Danzig tunes afterwards.

That $8 Franzia from Rite Aid is going to taste like Kool Aid from now on as your taste buds will reject it.
