After watching the Yankees organization collapse in the past couple weeks with Torre turning down Steinbrenner’s offer, and Alex Rodriguez opting out of his contract with the Yankees yesterday, there may be a new chapter on the books - Joe Torre to manage the Los Angeles Dodgers.
At this time, two MLB officials have said that Grady Little will be fired, Joe Torre will take the job as Dodgers Manager, and he will make Don Mattingly (just today snubbed from the Yankees Manager position) a coach.
Would the Dodgers really drop Grady Little so quickly? We remember Grady Little being dropped by the Red Sox pretty quickly when he decided to listen to Pedro Martinez and leave him in the game even though he was due for some benchin’. Grady Little should see something like this coming though, what with the Dodgers not even making the post season.
If this is true, it would mean that Torre is giving up New York living, a city he has called home for years, and a city he has given back to in countless ways. One can only cheer him on as he moves on to bigger and better things, and only hope that he has the chance to stick it to the Steinbrenners as hard as possible during interleague play next season.
