Gone Baby Gone review

October 30th, 2007 · No Comments

I went into this film not knowing anything about it other than it was set in Boston and Casey Affleck was in it.. shortly before going I learned that Ben Affleck directed it, whatever I just want to see a movie about Boston. This movie went miles above and beyond what I hoped it would be.

First of all, I was ready to give this movie a solid “meh” because there are a few different times in the movie when you think it’s just going to end, but NO it takes it up a notch and keeps delivering. If you loved The Departed you’ll probably love this movie. If you’re from Boston you’ll definitely love this movie because the accents were spot on, so much so that you really hope they paid these people and didn’t just give them the chance to be in a movie.

Casey Affleck looks to young to be playing any sort of grown up, let alone a private investigator, but the fact that they acknowlege that giant elephant in the room over and over makes this movie more believable. Great acting all around, and good to see Morgan Freeman in a good role again. Ed Harris grew out the goatee and took on a completely different persona than I’ve ever seen before, and it really carried the film.

I don’t want to give anything away, but all I can say is expect the unexpected. This movie was as dramatic as drama can be, and for one scene I actually thought I was in a horror film (you’ll know the one). Two big thumbs up, though I have to wonder if all these movies about Boston being the crime capital of the world is hurting tourism any.
