We’re on a diner kick here at LA Snark, and The Mariposa Restaurant in El Segundo kinda slides under the door in the “diner” classification. The food is quick, fried, and there’s a counter.. that might be the end of it’s diner-ness, but it’s a personal standby.
The Mariposa Restaurant is located in the Hacienda hotel on North Sepulveda Blvd in El Segundo. This place is frequented by pilots in town for the night, local elderly folks, and really just random travelers. This place has a damn fine cup of coffee as Special Agent Dale Cooper would say, and a pretty extensive menu. Whether you’re in the mood for breafkast any time of the day, a burger, or even Mexican cuisine, you’ll find it here in the comfortable old California almost diner-like restaurant. There are two bonuses here: Pie is one. You’ll see the old school pie display behind the counter that will tempt you as soon as you walk in, but I have yet to finish a meal here with any room left in my stomach, but it is tempting. Another bonus: There’s a bar right down the hall. A dark-in-the-middle-of-the-day-so-you-don’t-feel-weird-drinking-in-the-broad-daylight bar, and there are Monday Night Football specials.
If for some reason you find yourself trapped in El Segundo, or your flight is delayed for more than a few hours, cab it on over to The Hacienda and enjoy a damn fine cup of coffee at The Mariposa Restaurant. Ask for Perfecto. No seriously, there’s a waiter named Perfecto.
