Hi there! Since moving to LA I’ve found that it’s near impossible to find any big open areas of green grass around town. My frisbee has been neglected for far too long! Other than the beaches, are there any actual green grass parks I can visit in LA?
Thanks,
Amy - Los Feliz
Thanks for the question Amy! To answer your question we enlisted the help of Ms. MLIS over at LibraryTwoPointOh.com, a soon-to-be librarian. Here’s what she had to say:

Amy,
This is a common complaint among L.A. transplants. Consider spending some time on the City of L.A.’s Recreation & Parks site. You can enter your address and find parks near your home on their location finder map. Looking for picnic areas or dog parks or pools or bike trails or whatevs? You can limit your search results to only those in which you’re interested. If this is too much like homework for you, just go to Google Maps and zoom in to your neighborhood. Taking a quick look at the green patches that appear is probably the fastest way to find a park near you.
If you’re into comprehensive lists, then check out this list of City Parks.
Thanks for your question, Amy. Now dust off that frisbee and find yourself a park!

Great post, I love the Kenneth Hahn recreation area, tons of space, great for kicking a soccer ball around.

Head to the VA hospital just off Ohio and Sawtell, thee is a huge grass area that is a jaunt from the building, the grounds are huge and there is a parking lot there by the entrance. I never see anyone there either but it’s worth a try…until they kick you out I guess
