3 Blind Moose - Cabernet Sauvignon

January 8th, 2008 · 4 Comments

moose.jpgThree Blind Moose’s Cabernet Sauvignon is the diamond in the rough of Ralphs wine section.  I originally picked it up because I was on a “pick the wine with the funniest label” kick, and what label can compare with this?

The website, 3BlindMoose.com,  only has tasting notes for the 2003 and 2004 harvests, but it will give you an idea of what to look for when tasting this top shelf taste at a bottom shelf price.

The 2004 tasting notes said that you can pick up aromas and flavors of dark berr, plum, chocolate, clove and space.  The grapes come from the Central Coast and Lodi growing regions.  The fruit was harvested when “the hills were alive with the sound of moosic.”

The stand out hightlights of  3 Blind Moose Cabernet Sauvignon are the easy-to-drink quality of the wine and the low, low price (usually around $8).  My kitchen is always stocked on the weekends:

I discovered this wine last weekend, and as a hunter for cheap but tasty wine, I love it. I also recommend Chalk Creek Cabernet Sauvignon, that you can maybe find at Trader Joe’s if there is any left.

Mike’s back! I’ll definitely check out the Chalk Creek Cabernet, after our trip up to wine country we feel a little silly drinking a cartoon wine, so we’re looking to branch out. Thanks!

[...] One thing they did have though, was a pretty cool wine selection.. and I’m not going by quality, but by clever labels.  I’m forgetting the names now, but if you’re having a party and you need to buy too much wine, considering stopping by Cost Plus to stock up, if only for just a gag.  (But let me know if you find anything good, because funny labels and great taste combined is where it’s at.. see 3 Blind Moose.) [...] from Ralphs today, great after-work cool-down wine. It’s in the $7 range, on the shelf above 3 Blind Moose. It’s lighter than you’d expect a Pinot to be, which may be a downside to wine [...]
