TXT ACO

Angel City Outcasts, Drug Lords of The Avenues, The 86′d, The Ignorant

Formed in early 2002, Angel City Outcasts consolidated the ideas of their previous bands into a distinct style, which combines the urgency and charisma of street-punk and the versatility and skill of classic rock ‘n’ roll. The band’s mission is to put brass balls, as well as skill, back into rock. Not only influenced by punk but also by traditional country, rockabilly, hardcore, metal and everything in between, the result is one hell of a powerhouse quintet.

TXT DUHKS

An Evening with…
The Duhks

For four years now, the Duhks, the band of five skilled, high-energy, tattooed twenty-somethings from Winnipeg, Manitoba, has been riveting audiences and winning staunch fans across North America and around the world with their brand of vital acoustic music. Since the release of their self-titled, Bela Fleck-produced album in 2005, and the consequent re-release of their Canadian debut, Your Daughters and Your Sons, as well as this year’s Sugar Hill release Migrations, the band has won admirers as diverse as David Crosby, Dolly Parton, and Doc Watson. They blend soul, gospel, North American folk, Brazilian samba, old time country string band, zydeco, and Irish dance music, interweaving these acoustic styles with a ferocity that could only be called rock ‘n’ roll. Their unique sound has also earned them a Grammy Award nomination in the Best Country Vocal Performance by a Group or Duo category, one Juno Award, two additional Juno nominations, two Folk Alliance awards, and an Americana Music Association nomination for Best Emerging Artists.

TXT ESTRADA

Estradasphere, Renfield

Estradasphere dedicates their art to interpreting and developing the underlying musical currents of time and place. Rather than shamelessly showcasing their instrumental prowess, the six-piece band from Santa Cruz, California draws on their broad scope of musicianship to explore the possibilities of the future, and more importantly, the past.

Connecting to music by playing real instruments (violin, upright bass, guitar, accordion, organ, Japanese Shamisen, drums) and a shifting variety of instrumentations (chamber ensemble, jazz combo, gypsy metal band, Sixties film rock, etc.), Estradasphere holds the door for our individual and collective understanding of music.

TXT DRAGON

Year of the Dragon, Kauze, RhythmNuN, Kaiowas

Church of the 8th Day Presents…

Walter “Dirty Walt” Kibby will be the first to tell you: “I love my former group, Fishbone. I’m a founding member and I was in it to win it until recently. Even now I wish them all the best, their success is my success. But I felt it was time for me personally to move on and try some new things.” Among those things is Year of the Dragon, a group which started off as the result of some accumulated studio time and has grown into a full blown musical expedition. Walt is joined by fellow adventurers Spacey T, former lead guitarist with Fishbone and founding member of groundbreaking metal band Sound Barrier, and vocalist Roderick, ‘Rodcore’ Palmer. Expect great new material and an ultra-high energy live presentation.

TXT LOVEONE

The Loved Ones, The Flatliners, Cobra Skulls

“For as much as punk rock is about breaking down the barriers we build around ourselves, it’s a challenge to be a “people’s punk band” when the scene that spawned you wants you to stay inside its walls forever. But with their new, second album, Build & Burn, that’s just the challenge Philadelphia’s the Loved Ones are ready to take on. Broader-focused, more rock ‘n’ roll-inspired, and (dare we say it) catchier than ever before, the disc finds the quartet crafting a sound that’s as worthy of dive bars stages as it is of warming stadiums for Bruce Springsteen or Tom Petty. Forget the “pop-punk” tag that’s followed these guys just because they’re old hardcore kids (alumni of the Explosion, Trial by Fire, the Curse and Paint it Black, if you’re keeping score) with a gift for melody. If you have to pigeonhole it, Build & Burn is populist punk—and it’s also the best damned thing the Loved Ones have done.”– Aaron Burgess, 2007

TXT JUCIFER

Jucifer

“Jucifer has been defying the limits and expectations of two-person music since 1993. Known for brutal beauty and fiery intensity on stage, remarkable dimension on wax, and the most daunting wall of amplification ever wielded by a single guitarist, Amber and Ed bleed doom, pop, noise, majesty.” – Rolling Stone

The mighty Jucifer will be filming a fan-shot DVD at their show here, so come on down and get in the act!

TXT CULT

Cloud Cult

Cloud Cult’s latest album The Meaning of 8 topped the CMJ Radio Charts. The Denver Post listed The Meaning of 8 as one of the top 12 albums of the past decade along with Radiohead’s Kid A and the Flaming Lips’ Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots.

Cloud Cult’s unique sound has been called “insane genius” by Pitchforkmedia and has been compared to Modest Mouse, Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel and Beck. The group’s live shows include elaborate theatrics that include live painters on stage, live video projection of audience and band, and back screen video. The live band includes cello, violin, trumpet, flute and percussion, along with the more standard guitar, bass, keys and drums line-up.
