The commercials for this show were trying so hard to speak to me, that I felt it would only be polite for me to check out the first episode.
First, before offering my opinion, I want to say thank you for the “edgy” camera movements, and the indie-ish song that the girl sang at the end, I appreciate the effort, really I do.
But Creators Of Quarterlife, I will not be joining you on this journey through trying to survive a full season on network television. The fast forward function on my DVR got quite a workout today. First of all, that main character was far too awkward and unlikeable to be a protagonist. And that BS about “having to write and be true to what moves her” was farrrr too pretentious. And the other dude with the King Richards Fare haircut.. what’s up with that? Did he go to Supercuts with a show producer that was giving out instructions like “ok just cut it like a normal haircut but like, leave the sides longer, yeah and the back too.. no that looks good, that what the kids are doing with their hair now..”
And what about that not-getting-along couple? The model in dork’s clothing gag wasn’t fooling us.. the “bad” girl that tends bar and wants to be an actress but can’t act because she doesn’t “know herself.” Whatever. And what’s the deal with the first episode being like a whole friggin’ season? The Girl said it best, this show should have been called Quarterhour and should have run for only 15 minutes. You overshot the load big time here with the relationships falling apart then coming back together then falling apart again.. oof. And that scene with all of the extras overacting how embarrassed they are, who outwardly acts embarrassed for someone else?
And for fuck’s sake, why did you have to go ahead and make blogging look more nerdy and pathetic than it already is!? Not cool people. Not. Cool.
