It’s amazing the depths of life you can find when you’re bored. Have you ever used IRC? Internet Relay Chat that is. It’s a different world. Picture spending ever second of your awake life online.. what would you do? Well a lot of us do that, whether we’re working in programming, web development, or any job that allows you to earn a living online while you spend the day wasting time online.
Some people spend their entire LIVES online. To further investigate this a few of us spent three weeks visiting Fark.com’s chatroom #fark on FDFnet. I met some interesting characters.
I met Miz, a channel operator, who apparently met her American husband online. They work all day, and then come home and play World of Warcraft together. A video game that you pay a monthly fee for. She logs on first thing in the morning and logs out last thing at night. She hates Obama’s speeches.
Sueb is a secretary of some sort.. she lives in the south somewhere. She has kids and a lot of family issues. She’s pretty miserable and lonely and really hates when new people enter the #fark or #bannination chat rooms.
Iggins is a 21 yr old kid that works at a Kroger supermarket in Kentucky. He works in the meat department and hangs in #fark because it’s a place to go when there’s no where else to go.
IHateyourFaceYo is a guy in Connecticut that lives with his parents and just took a job inspecting sewers. He tells it like it is, even though the #fark Ops don’t appreciate it. He was begged to come back to #bannination because nothing interesting goes on there when he’s not around.
Qate is pretty much a 24/7 user from just outside Houston. She just took a job working at NASA. She’s in her 40’s and likes to replace c’s and k’s with q’s in words, as in the qat was in the litterbox.
Calisa is a bulimic 21 yr old girl from the midwest that regularly and publicly obsesses over her weight. She has shared her online folder where she keeps pictures of all the thin actresses like Angelina Jolie that she identifies with. She thrives on the attention she gets from the web stalkers in #fark.
Aeonite seems to be one of the “not as intelligent” users on #fark as he only inserts profane or ridiculous comments into conversation like “is he hot?” People mostly ignore Aeonite.
Superdug is a troll, meaning someone that just chats to cause trouble on #fark. He shared a photo and he is an obese, mid 20’s user that likes to make sexual jokes online.
He11Razor: Not sure what his deal is, kinda the squeaky kid in class that everyone private messages each other about, making fun of. I’m sure if there were a way to throw a paper airplane in IRC he’d have a swarm of them around his head at all times. Poor kid.
CaptainWes: Plays Total Fortress 2 every day, all day. His fiance, PeanuttyGirl is upset so much by this that she talks about how obese and lazy he is on a daily basis, as well as the fact that she is sexually unsatisfied. She welcomes flirting from other #fark users.
Kitsune is the “administrator” of FDFnet and by far the saddest case online. He is an obese homosexual man that apprently has no signifcant other and lives his life 100% online. Any questions we had for him put him on the defensive and he immediately banned one of us. Private messages from other users revealed that he regularly uses his “administrator” status as a way to bully other users.
In the end, this experience was depressing. Seeing people that spend all day every day referencing Monty Python and other non-evolved comedy jokes, seeing people fake flirt with each other, seeing fat guys being overly lewd and obnoxious to chatters with a female name. It’s the lowest common denominator, and I can’t believe that one of my favorite sites, Fark.com, allows it’s name to be associated with it, especially when operators of the channel admit that none of them even visit Fark.com.

IHateYourFaceYo is an annoying pissant who keeps spending 8 hours a day in IRC whining about how he’s been banned from #fark for being an obnoxious tool. He still lives with his parents and can’t hold down a job without managing to get fired for fucking the crack whore coworker’s cousin, can’t resist talking about his double anus and generally has no redeeming personality traits whatsoever. People laugh at him and he’s too stupid to know that, so he laughs with them.

As a regular Farker I appreciated this post immensely. I love Fark.com and I love #fark, but the fact that Kitsune is always looming in the room gives the same vibe as talking on your cell phone while your Burger King manager scours the office would.

Thank you for this post! I deal with Kitsune on a daily basis in a couple of channels, but he does wake up and decide to wield what is probably the only power he has in his life, and it is frustrating for those of us that actually know how to interact with other people.

Well, I just got glined from the Fdfnet server. For what, I don’t know. It says “Spam” but I was asleep so I have no idea how that happened while I was asleep. Frankly, I don’t give a damn either.
Miz and Sueb are decent enough people. It takes a lot to set Miz off and I’ve only seen her semi-angry maybe twice. Sueb is much more volatile. One day she can be cool and I can chat with her, the next day she’s a bitch. Which Sueb do you get? Flip a coin.
Kitsune is a total twat. I don’t know about the whole “obese homosexual” thing but I do agree he gets his only jollies by bullying people online. If you wind up on his “bad list”, watch out! He will hound you repeatedly over stupid crap, even if everyone else partakes in the stupid crap. It’s IRC. Lighten up.
His situation is akin to a guy inviting random people over to his house to watch a baseball game. It makes him feel popular even though they aren’t coming to see him. They’re there to watch the game. If you don’t kiss his ass like the other sycophants, you’re outta there.
The last straw was that I was removed from #fark for a week only for my ban not removed after that week was over. Kitsune is a liar. Somehow, when I couldn’t even enter the channel, this ban was turned into a permanent ban. Kitsune told me not to whine in other channels about the ban. When someone asked me if I was banned from #fark in #bannination, I said “Maybe
I shouldn’t talk about it.” Kitsune began yelling at me about talking about my ban. What the hell?
When I copied what I had said, I was yelled at by Kitsune again for copying it. Apparently, on this server you are not allowed to defend yourself when the server owner obviously cannot read.
I asked him in #help with no response. No one would tell me why my ban was turned into a permanent ban.
Now in response to “Hurrr”, a cocksucker who can’t even use an identifiable name. I spent 8 hours a day on IRC because I couldn’t do much due to the “double anus” (pilonidal cyst) and I did speak about it a lot because that was what happening in my life. (hint: people in IRC talk about their lives) If I had anything else happening, I would have been more than happy to talk about that too.
Also, just to clarify my “firing”. I wasn’t fired from that job. I quit because my “crack whore” co-worker was a guy and wasn’t a whore, just a crackhead. He did unreliable work that I had to spend my shift fixing. Even if I spent the shift before his prepping all of his work, I had to come in the next day to fix everything he screwed up. At that point, I didn’t know he was a crackhead. I quit because he kept narcing his screw ups to the boss and blaming me even after I did everything to help him. The fact that I fucked his cousin was after I had quit. It was just a chance meeting. I went for it and I scored. I had no contact with her prior to the party where I gave her the ol’ in and out.
Also, did it ever occur to you that I don’t care if people are laughing at me? Funny is funny and I’ll laugh along with it. Insult my family, insult me… I don’t care. If it’s funny, I’ll laugh. My sense of humor is a bit twisted as it is.
Maybe that’s the problem with the world. You tell a misogynistic joke to 10 guys and if it’s truly funny, they all will laugh. Tell it to one woman and even if it’s truly funny, they’ll complain. I’m a white Irish guy and I laugh at white jokes and Irish jokes all the time. Yep, us micks. We tend to be drunks, beat our wives and have a dozen kids. Funny stuff that I’ll laugh at.
In the end, you probably weren’t important enough to be offended by.

Sucks to hear that IHateYourFaceYo, your baseball analogy is 100% right on. We do try to avoid him as much as possible, and when stuff like this happens we are reminded why.
I think we should talk to Drew about the way Kitsune and Sueb are representing Fark on IRC, I am sure it is not something he would support.

It doesn’t really suck. I have a job that I just got home from. I was out with friends the night before last. I’m living life again. IRC was a fun distraction while I was sick. Other than that, it really doesn’t have much to offer me.
I don’t think talking to Drew will do anything but I don’t see why it would hurt.

Blah, precisely. When I asked why I was permanently banned from #fark, I couldn’t even get a straight answer. I could even accept Kitsune just saying, “Hey, I don’t like you!” but to ignore one of your members with a legitimate question? Yeah, he really wants to make people feel welcome.
