Cost Plus World Market on Santa Monica Boulevard

So I had to stop in Cost Plus World Market.  I grew up with a store called Cost Plus just down the road, and that’s where we’d go to get the cheap candy that we’d hide in our pockets or mom’s purse when going to the movie theater next door.   They also had other random things like cheap knockoff GI Joe action figures, those paper/wooden planes with the metal nose tip, and Daredevil comic books.  I expected all this and more from Cost Plus World Market.

The quest for the perfect beach chair was what brought me here today, even though I had glared longingly at this place every time we headed east on Santa Monica Blvd.   Not just a regular beach chair, the kind your mom had that would waffelize the back of your thighs, but those super low beach chairs, lowrider beach chairs if you will, that you can bring to the beach and to the cemetery screenings and Hollywood/Rose Bowl type events.

This place seemed to have everything.. think Pier 1 Imports but less wicker and more damaged goods.  I found the perfect TV stand, the perfect coffee table, the perfect dining room table, but most if not all were damaged.  The price, while far cheaper than a standard furniture store, didn’t really match up with the damaged goods.  Oh and they didn’t have our beach chairs, any beach chairs actually.

One thing they did have though, was a pretty cool wine selection.. and I’m not going by quality, but by clever labels.  I’m forgetting the names now, but if you’re having a party and you need to buy too much wine, considering stopping by Cost Plus to stock up, if only for just a gag.  (But let me know if you find anything good, because funny labels and great taste combined is where it’s at.. see 3 Blind Moose.)

We eventually found our small beach chairs, at one of those tourist shops on the boardwalk, just south of Muscle Beach.  $17 each, cool.

I bought most of my pots and pans at Cost Plus World Market, and they’ve held up for the most part. Also good for rugs and random home decorations.

the furniture is damaged here. you’re better off going to an unfinished furniture store and finishing it off yourself.
