I have lived in LA almost 14 years now and relatives that visit still want to go to Hollywood & Vine to see the Hollywood Sign, the Stars on the Walk of Fame and the Footprints in Grauman’s (Mann) Chinese Theater? Just like every Angeleno, we’ve all been here lots of times, so this time I found myself not paying attention to the sights, but to the people. And the thing that caught me off guard the most were the celebrity impersonators. I have not seen this many people dressed up since ComiCon. So my first question is what in the hell possesses people to dress up in costume on a 85 degree April afternoon to have their pictures taken by tourists in Hollywood? Do these people have real jobs? Are they out of work actors? Homeless people? By the look of some of these costumes, they don’t even make enough money to maintain a decent costume (see Chewbacca photo, he looks like a roll of carpet, and smelled like a wet dog). So the day I was out there I counted 10! Yes ten people in a 1/2 block radius dressed up like Charlie Chaplin, Catwoman, Batman, the Flash, Micheal Myers, Freddie Cruger, Marylynn Monroe, Captain Jack Sparrow, Spiderman, the Hulk, and the Scream villain. The verdict? Avoid this place for your sanity or go stop by for a good laugh. I actually saw an Asian tourist give a toothless “Flash” a quarter. Now that’s funny! Now, I wonder if I’ll see these same people at ComiCon in July 24-27 in San Diego? Ahh, Good old ComiCon!
