I heard about this a few days ago on NPR and now just ran across it on the LA Times web site. From the LA Times “It’s taken eight years and $6 million for Burbank airport officials to come up with a proposed solution to ease sleep-depriving aircraft noise that has frustrated nearby residents for decades: Shift some overnight operations to Van Nuys Airport” So this is the jist… Burbank Airportis overcrowded and the neighbors are complaining. So Burbank’s solution to their problem is move the problem somewhere else, to the poorer less affluent neighborhood of Van Nuys. “The proposal would send about 16 private and corporate jet flights each night to Van Nuys — already the world’s largest general aviation airport.” Says the Times. How does that fix your Problem? It just moves it 9 miles West. Out of sight, out of mind! I live near the Van Nuys airport and planes still fly in and out pretty late, while laying in bed at 11pm last night I could hear one flying over my house. The Fat cat old neighbors living in Burbank need to re-think their strategy or just live with late night flight traffic. Hell it’s LA, you can’t go anywhere in this city without hearing the freeway anyway. Move out to Valencia if you want quite!
