UPDATE: I noticed a lot of people arriving to this site searching for the Malls store listing, well unfortunately their Website was designed in FLASH, which for the layperson means it’s not going to pop up in a Search Engine very high. So if you are looking for a list of stores for the America at Brand Mall in Glendale click here.
I ran into my friend Tim on Saturday who mentioned he was going to check out the New Americana at Brand Mall in Glendale. I heard it was being called The Grove on Steroids (Shopping Center and Residential Living). I do like going to The Grove when I am in the area, and love going to the restaurant Morels French Bistro which has an upstairs patio
over looking the fountain (a great anniversary place). It also has a fair amount of decent stores like Anthropologie, Banana Republic, Barnes & Noble, and The Gap. However, when I spoke with him today he was very disappointed as there were a lot of stores not even open as well as a disproportionate amount of really expensive stores (Barneys, Lacoste, Juicy and comming soon Ed Hardy, Tiffany’s, and Calvin Klein) vs. your more affordable H&M’s. When I asked him this week how it was, he came back with a classic rant I had to share with the LA Snark Community…

Yes we did go Sunday afternoon. It was really crowded. Some of the stores were not even open yet. Most of the retail stores at the Americana at Brand are high-end, upscale - not my kind of shopping at all. I think the only store I’d actually enter would be the Rite Aid store! They do have an 18 screen Pacific Theaters I’d go to see a movie at though. There are apartments available to rent - starting in the low $2,000s. Yeah, right, I’m going to spend that much on a 1BR apt just so I can be part of the scene at the Americana! They also have condos to purchase - starting in the $700s up to $2 million! Sure, let me buy two at those prices! Given the current state of our national economy and the current mortgage and budget crisis in California, I think the whole place is the typical exercise in the excessive, “above our means,” “buy, buy, buy” mentality that so many Americans get sucked into. I mean, really, did Southern California really need another mall? I guess it’s another place where so many dumb-asses can just say “charge it” and then declare bankruptcy when they can’t afford to pay up when the bill comes. I wonder how many schools we could have improved with what it cost to build that place? (note- it cost 400 million to build) Needless to say, I won’t be going back. ~Tim
Man that cracks me up especially the last part which totally sums up the American Consumerism Mentality where more is better. LOL!

Maybe they should start opening schools inside malls and make the mall people pay for the school, or something like that. That way, we can have our malls and not feel guilty about them.

Developers who create the life style like Americana @Brand are in denial. They are not creating a future for their buyers. They are actually creating a new MONTHLY PAYMENT SLAVERY life style for the new generation of Live For Moment Only. I don’t see the financial success future for these kind of development at all, Can you?

I think everyone is being bitter because its a very HIGH END mall and since some people cant afford to shop at the Americana, they are angry. There is no need to talk down, dont be a hater.
I think its better this way at least we wont get any gansters hanging around the mall and or any other violence, like the City walk that place is horribleI think they could have put in a few stores that were not on the higher end but maybe they do when the some of the leases are up they might bring different stores. All I can say is that its a very nice place
