Summer Blockbuster Movie Schedule- Keep score with the Snark! Indiana Jones? Batman Dark Knight? Hancock?

May 11th, 2008 · 2 Comments

The summer movie season is now underway with the insane opening of Iron Man this past weekend which brought in over 100 million during opening weekend alone. I loved that movie, see Greg Oguss review here, and am looking forward to most of the upcoming summer movies. In an effort to keep our LA Snark community up to speed, here is a list of the upcoming summer Blockbusters sorted by release date with opening weekend ticket sales. I’ll update Box office grosses after each opening weekend. Which one is going to take the cake for highest opening weekend gross this summer? My prediction: The Dark Knight (PS 7/21- Batman pulls in 155M opening weekend…I told you!!!!).

Summer Blockbusters:

April 18- Forgetting Sarah Marshall $18MIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

May 2 Iron Man-$98M

May 9- Speed Racer-$18.5M

May 16- Chronicles of Narnia- Prince Caspian-$55M

May 22- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull-$101M

May 30- Sex and the City-$56M

June 6- Kung Fu Panda-$60M

June 13- The Incredible Hulk-$54.5M

June 13- The Happening (M. Night Shyamalan)-$30M

June 20- Get Smart-$39M

June 27- Wanted (Angelina Jolie)- $51M

June 27- Wall-E- $62M

July 4- Hancock-$66M

July 11- Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D-$21M

July 11- Hell Boy II: The Golden Army-$34M

July 18- The Dark Knight (Batman)- $155M

July 25- X-files 2

July 25- Step Brothers

Aug 1- The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Aug 8- Pineapple Express

Aug 15- Tropical Thunder

Aug 15- Star Wars: Clone Wars

Sleepers-

May 30- The Foot and the Fist Way: this just sounds way too fun and was shot in 17days by recent film school grads. I am picturing that Tie Kwan do scene in Napoleon Dynamite where Kip does the leg sweep when trying to take down the sensei…classic

Movies that will suck ass-

These are summer movie’s that I already hate just by watching the previews..

April 28- Harold & Kumar ($18M)- The first one was just ok, except of coarse Doogie Houser partying it up with large breasted co-eds while leaving his mark in Harold’s car.

May 9th- What Happens in Vegas ($20M)- stupid premise and the just by watching the trailer I can tell the acting will be awful

June 20- The Love Guru ($13M)- the same jokes from the Austin Powers movies- I can already tell this will suck.

On the Fence-

June 6 Get Smart ($39M)- Is this going to be as bad as The Love Guru or the last naked Gun movie, I can just feel it, although I had a hard time throwing it on the “suck ass” list since Steve Carell is so popular with his series “The Office” and the fact that “The 40 Year Old Virgin” did so well. Plus I just saw an extended trailer of this flick before the Indiana Jones movie and it wasn’t1/2 bad…so basically I am on the fence! I still added it to the list above to keep track of it.

[...] Oh man this is such disappointing news to hear!  I am planning on catching it Sunday at the Grove and had such high hope for it.  Being a huge Indiana Jones fan since i was a kid, I had been looking forward to it since they announced it last year at Comic Con.  Seems like Ironman will be the movie that rules the summer, unless Batman can knock it down as I predicted here in the Snark’s Summer Movie Preview.
