Over this past weekend I hit up Point Dume with the family on Sunday. We got there early, about 10am, and beat the rush. Point Dume is located just south of Zuma Beach. It has more of a private beach feel as the parking for it is $7 and is a slight drive down to it, meaning people would have to walk a bit to get over here from Zuma Beach. So why have I lived in LA for more than a dozen years and have never been here! It was great. We went hiking up to the top of the cliffs there, ranging from 140 to 250 feet above the water. The views were great, even though it was slightly overcast, and the beach was really nice, and less crowded. There is even a cliff face that people were repelling down…I did not realize this was legal in a start park.
After an hour of hiking, we hit the beach for an hour flew some kits, made some sandcastles, then headed off to lunch at The Sunset Restaurant. The food was reasonably priced for a place with ocean views and very enjoyable as we started with calamari, then had salads and a Kobe burger. This may not be a destination place, but an awesome way to end, start or break-up your day at the beach. I highly recommend this area to take visiting family or for your next trip to the beach, even if it is still quite a drive up the coast. Get there early as when we left around 1:30pm there was a 30+ line of cars waiting to get into the packed parking lot.

This place looks great, you can really repel down a cliff face at a state park?
