It took me forever to see this movie, but The Girl brought it home from the library and we checked it out. I had no idea what this movie was about other than a guy that buys a Real Doll, but that was enough for me. Other cubicle-trapped coworkers and I had fun sending the Real Doll web link around years ago, and if it was funny then, well it had to be funny still. I figured this would be the story of a slacker dude that goes home and had sex with a doll every night, but noooooooooooooo. I don’t want to reveal too much to those who haven’t seen it, but it’s actually a sensitive film about Lars and his delusion that this doll is a real person, and about how his family and community support this belief to help him work through the issues he’s going through. Definitely a good rental. If anyone else saw it, I’d be interested to read what you thought.

Haven’t seen it yet but your short review makes me think that I should give it a try. How long was it? Will get hold of a DVD soon..

Lars is one of my favorite movies — it’s so sweet and weird and sensitive and sad and funny, all at once.
