Checking in with the new 90210 series

September 16th, 2008 · 24 Comments

On the latest episode of the new 90210 series entitled “The Bubble”, Brenda mentioned that the father of Kelly’s son is Dylan.  Does this mean that Luke Perry will return to the show?  Luke Perry has said over and over again in interviews that he will not be joining the cast of the new series.  I personally figured that they’d leave Kelly’s baby-daddy’s name out of it until either Luke Perry or Jason Priestly decided to join up (come on guys there’s gotta be a sweet paycheck here.)  There was some discussion that Ian Ziering’s character Steve could be the father, but that didn’t happen either.

Apparently Luke Perry is going to star in a new series, but not 90210.  He’s going to be starring in some kind of Canadian holistic sci-fi show called Jeremiah.  But, he also appears to be reconsidering, according to Us Magazine:

“(Luke) is in talks. The writers really want to do the Kelly-Brenda-Dylan plotline,” a source told the mag.”

Tori Spelling is also still looking to join the cast as she told OK! Magazine:

“Yeah, well see.  I’m a big believer in what’s meant to be will be, so if it’s meant to be it will work out,” she says.  “I watched it and I think it’s so cute.  The new cast is so cute.”

I’m sure this information will leak at a crazy rate.  It’s also possible that Dylan’s name didn’t even appear in the script until Luke Perry’s “people” gave 90210 producers the nod that he’d make some appearances.

And what’s this jazz about Naomi’s dad and his mistress and her moving into the beach house but that’s somehow over the line for Naomi’s mom?  Here’s what I say: The “mistress” is Naomi’s real mom, and Naomi’s “current mom” was the mistress.  Yeah I said it.

And next week Annie considers losing her virginity?  Already?  What a hussy!  This is all starting to sound a little too familiar.

You know what else sounds too familiar?  The fact that the actress (Shenae Grimes) who plays the main daughter role (similar to Shannen Doherty in the last 90210 series) is apparently a total nightmare on the set.

The New York Post reports:

September 15, 2008 –

THERE’S a new bad girl on “90210,” and it’s not Brenda Walsh, played by Shannen Doherty, who ruled as the show’s queen of mean during its first incarnation. Doherty has since cleaned up her tough act, but the new CW show’s newbie, Shenae Grimes, who plays Annie Wilson, isn’t taking cues from her tamed-down predecessor. Show sources told Page Six that Grimes was “tormenting everyone on set” and “acts rude to the cast, crew and extras.” Our insider told us Grimes even once yelled at an unassuming guest star, “Who the hell are you?” and often spits out comments like “This is my show - everyone else is riding my coattails.” In fact, the original series’ divas are carrying the show. Ratings plummeted from 4.9 million viewers in the first week to 3.2 million in the second week when Doherty was absent from the episode. Reps for Doherty and Grimes had no comment.

No word yet on whether or not Shenae Grimes pulled a Doherty and crashed one of the show’s cars, but hey we’re just getting started.

Shannen Doherty explained why she is only staying on the show for four episodes.

“I think there’s such a thing as overstaying your welcome,” Doherty explains to Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t want to do that.  I want fans to walk away with love in their hearts for Brenda.”

i thought they were going to wait it out too, i’m surprised they dropped it like that not knowing if luke is coming back to play dylan

I just want to say for the record that it would be absolutely retarded of them to bring in another actor to play Dylan.

I really thought it might be Steve’s kid based on the hair alone. No that would have made too much sense.

this show will stay on my DVR recordings if Dylan comes back and there’s another Kelly Dylan Brenda love triangle.

it was so great to see a little tension between Brenda and Kelly again!

That could definitely be the case about Naomi’s mom. She is so mean looking!

  • 11 Brian // Sep 16, 2008

If it’s not her real mom it must be just another dumb drama twist. Yawn.

Well Naomi is probably based on Kelly from the original series. Kelly was the pretty popular one who’s parents had issues. If it worked once maybe it’ll work again. It seems like they want to push Naomi over the edge, I see her doing something really drastic.

EVERYONE is reporting that Shenae is a bitch, I don’t know too much about her outside of the show but that sucks for the crew if it’s true!

  • 14 Shane // Sep 16, 2008

Are there any reports from Degrassi on how she was to deal with?

  • 15 Mel // Sep 16, 2008

Only like 5 percent of the people watching 90210 even know what Degrassi was, so get over yourself.

I fear I share the same sentiments with 90210. After the departure of Rob Thomas, the show feels more like “Life As We Know It” down to a play fixture in the series. And do you want to know how I came to this? The first episode had a quick cut to Annie doing a hokey bit in the play she pined about back in Kansas. That screams Rob Thomas, but alas those moments may be forever gone. And Lucille Bluth, ack - don’t get me started. I wouldn’t be shocked if that Mom bit came to fruition. And the “oh-no-it’s-sex” episode? Uh, so formulaic. Yet, I’ll give it a shot…

Who the hell is Rob Thomas?

  • 18 bren // Sep 17, 2008

First of all, the character “Annie” isn’t strong enough to be carrying the show, and Shenae Grimes is not cute enough to be throwing tantrums. Bitch please. And I totally hope Naomi does something crazy drastic. Soooooooo awesomes.

    Come back to 90210 Dylan!

  • 20 Frank // Sep 17, 2008

Can we get at least ONE girl with some meat on her on this cast? Kelly’s looking good, teen girls don’t eat anymore? I guess that’s nothing new.

  • 21 Em // Sep 17, 2008

Yeah why are the chicks on this show so skinny? It’s not attractive.

sounds like everyone’s forgotten about donna martin already, though she did get a shout out on the show last night.

I would love to see all of the org. cast come back, whether it just be a guest appearance or more. I want to know about donna and david, and steve and his family. I really want to see Dylan again.. Those who followed the org. 90210 didn’t want it to end and want to see it pick up again, 10 years later….

Funny how Nat was only in one other show after Beverly Hills 90210 ended and than droped off the radar, yet hes back on the show… I think it means he really loved the show.
