Ok, living in LA you don’t see many of these, but if you’ve done a fair amount of road tripping in your life like I have these Flying J’s and TravelCenters of America (with their giant red & blue TA logo) are staples across the U.S. land scape. I was just at the Flying J at Thousand Palms last weekend before making the drive back home to LA from Palm Desert. I have fond memories of these truck stops as a kid seeing all the cool semi-trucks, getting to play video games, and buying candy. It was a memorable break from the hours of driving we’d do across the Midwest on our annual pilgrimage to see relatives.
Official release: “Flying J Incorporated filed for bankruptcy protection Monday. However company president, Phillip Adams, says all of its trucks stops and fuel centers will remain open. Adams blames the move on rapidly falling oil prices and the inability to get financing in a tight credit market. Flying-J is one of the 20 largest privately owned companies in the United States with more than 1,600 employees and 16 billion dollars in sales last year.”
RIP Flying J
