Aahs on Wilshire, just over Santa Monica line, is on my way to and from everything, and I’ve noticed something: they’re ALWAYS open. They were open Christmas morning, and all night last night for New Years Eve. This place is a madhouse around Halloween, but at other times it’ll spark the same sense of fun you used to have when running up and down the aisles of Toys R Us looking at WWF dolls and GoBots (just me?)
The staff is really friendly and they know this museum of fun inside and out which is no small feat as this place is packed with wall to wall funnocity. I stopped by last night to pick up some very last minute New Years Eve decorations (as did the people in front of me in line – shown above) and one of the sales guys said “This 235 piece set is only $10, marked down from $20 (it was 7pm on NYE, everything must go!). He explained to me that it’s for men who just want to pick up a box of hats, streamers, noisemakers, plates, napkins, and invitations and be on their way. He told me that women like to hunt around for individual decorations and props while guys like the convenience of a party in a box. Well I did appreciate the party in a box and the excellent insight into gender-based buying behaviors. (Marked down) hats off to you Aahs!

Yeah, it is a crazy place, just like ToysRUs for adults. I actually worked there for a couple weeks when I first moved to LA. Nice family owned company.
