I hope it’s not too late for my top 15 Los Angeles blogs of 2008, but here they are. A lot of blogs make their way into and out of my Google Reader, but these 15 blogs have remained at all times. Here are LA Snark’s go-to Los Angeles blogs of 2008:
- LA Underground - I tried getting an apartment in Silverlake, but it didn’t happen. Reading this blog keeps me in the know and lets me know when to venture east for the night.
- Dig Lounge - It’s easy to get lost in this city sometimes. Dig Lounge points out the best in restaurants and events around town better than some local papers that try to do the same.
- Yo! Venice! - Venice is it’s own world, “Where Art and Crime Meet” I read once. As true hilarious as that is, I love Venice, and will continue to visit no matter how many tourist crowd panic attacks I have on my way to the Sidewalk Cafe.
- Radio Free Silverlake – Much like LA Underground, this blog reminds me that there is a music scene worth checking out in LA, even if it means convincing someone that doesn’t drink too much to get me there and back.
- Franklin Avenue – Great photos and tips on local places to check out. Definitely one for the RSS reader.
- LA Taco - I’m a vegetarian, but I still find myself reading every meat-filled-photo post on this blog. Great photos of local Mexican restaurants and graffiti art.
- Eater LA - Lesley from Eater LA is my go-to food critic, uh restaurant recommender. I recently asked her for a good vegetarian lunch option in downtown Culver City and she rattled off a list. She’s a walking/blogging encyclopedia of local cuisine.
- When Are We Going to California? - The Carters packed up and moved from Chicago to Los Angeles. How was the move? What do they think of LA? Will they be moving back to Chicago? I enjoy reading how new-to-LA folks react to their new surroundings, since I was there not so long ago.
- losanjealous – My friend Betty told me about this blog and I’ve been a subscriber ever since. Best LA concert calendar in the LA blog-o-sphere, and a constant reminder that I’m really not that hip afterall.
- Lorange - Lorange doesn’t post very often, but when he posts it’s always good. Local photos, some choice YouTube videos, and all around goodness.
- TaraMetBlog - I consider Tara to be one of my local blogger friends. She covers events that the rest of us steal from other blogs. A mix of personal posts, local events, and Hollywood reporting.
- Caroline on Crack- Who doesn’t want to read an admitted crack addict’s blog? Great posts about local events and restaurants. The drugs DO work.
- LAist - Anything and everything about LA, all day, every day. Great writing and a nice new layout.
- L.A. stories - A personal look at living in LA from the point of view of a local married couple. Camera phone pics, short posts, just the way I like it.
- L.A. Can’t Drive - So true, so true. I can’t tell you how many times a day I get cut off by a Cadillac SUV, or see a city bus run a red light, or there was that time the Santa Monica bus hit me while I was riding my bike… I think to myself at least twice per commute “man I should take a pic of that guy and send it to L.A. Can’t Drive.”

Thanks for the link! Nice to get mentioned in your list. Yours is a new one for me, but I’m glad I found it! Keep up the great writing.

Thanks for the mention, Snark Snark! Flattered to be in good company. And of course I’m not REALLY on drugs, just high on life, baby!
Thanks for the shout out and the new blogs I need to add to my reader!
Nice to wake up (late) to all your responses, thanks for keeping my Reader full!
I’m NOT a critic, Jack! Hehe. But I am good with the lists. Thanks for the shout out. Snark is popping up in my Google alerts a lot lately. Go, Jack, Go! Happy New Year!
Oh no Lesley, I didn’t realize “critic” was a slur, how bout “restaurant recommender” that sounds hot.
Jack, thanks for the mention. Here’s to lower submission candidates and a more uneventful commute in 2009 (alas, not likely). Safe cycling….
Thanks for the list! I’ve only been in LA a few months so I didn’t know about all of those blogs.
