Slowly but surely, but maybe a little too quickly, people are learning how to harness the power of Twitter. Some users have consistently helpful and uselul things to share with the Twittersphere, and others are there to network and get to know new people, and still others are there just to have a good time.. ourselves included.
In my opinion, and Robert Scoble’s actually, if you’re new to Twitter, you should just go all-in. Follow everyone. Follow those celebrities that are breaking up and lashing out at other celebrities, follow those famous CEO’s, follow all the headline news sites, follow everyone in your city, just get in there and you’ll feel the sense of immediacy that turns many new Twitter users into Twitter obsessees. Twobsessees? I don’t know.
One thing that might frustrate new users is the fact that they’re Tweeting into the void. They’re following 200 people but only have 8 followers themselves.. and those are all those marketing guys with their picture and profile set as their wallpaper. Building a big following is important to a lot of Twitter users, and one way of building up the number of followers you have is by following users that will follow you back. There are a tons of users that will follow you back immediately, a lot of whom are actually excited to build new connections and will reach out and respond to your Tweets.
How do you get more followers on Twitter?
First: Follow us here: http://www.twitter.com/lasnark we’ll follow you back right away.
Second: Add these users that follow back, and actively participate in Twitter:
Robert Scoble, Casey Wright, Jonathan360, Andrew303, MrSocial, and CoffeeTweet.
Third: Know any other Twitter users that follow back? Add them in the comments below, and add yourself if you follow back.
See you in the Twittersphere (watch out for the birds.)
Update 3/31/09: Twitter is going to disable autofollows that they had previously approved. Users (mostly spammers, but some good eggs) will now need to use 3rd party sites in order to auto-follow.. until those are blocked by Twitter. In the end the best way to go about following people that are following you would be to add people in the list below. You can also see who is following you that you’re not following back using sites like FriendOrFollow.com.
