The “Top 29 Cities for Men to Live In” results were determined through eight unique rating categories developed by AskMen.com editors including: Dating & Sex, Sports & Entertainment, Culture, Fashion, Health, Power & Money, The Good Life and 2009 Livability. Cities earned points and elevated their rank on the list through an evaluation process that assessed several influential features, such as: the population of single, college-educated women, how late bars/clubs stay open, the presence of reputable menswear-only stores, the rate of male heart disease, the cost of living and the occurrence of annual international arts festivals.
“For the first time ever, AskMen.com ranked the best cities for men around the globe and we’re pleased to acknowledge those cities where men reap rewards on both personal and professional levels,” said James Bassil, editor-in-chief of AskMen.com. “Through meticulous research coupled with real-life experiences, we’ve set out to provide the most comprehensive round-up of the year’s most stimulating and exciting cities for men to live in worldwide.”
As the largest city in the Midwest, Chicago tops this year’s list as the best city for men to live in, offering a vibrant mix of culture and entertainment. The city’s cost of living and down-to-earth charm make it an ideal destination for men seeking a comfortable, cosmopolitan lifestyle.
Striking the perfect balance between fine arts and sports, Chicago offers world-class cultural fixtures like the Art Institute, Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago International Film Festival, and professional sports teams like the Chicago Bears and Cubs – complete with storied pasts and diehard fans. In addition, the city boasts one of the world’s most diverse restaurant scenes and is internationally recognized for its signature pizza, Italian beef and hot dogs. This October, Chicago will participate as a finalist to host the 2016 Olympics, which will further enhance its global reputation and support the claim that it is indeed the best city for men to live in this year.
The 2009 edition of the Top 29 follows in the footsteps of AskMen.com’s extensive library of travel-related articles, including the “Top 10 Cities to Visit”, a popular AskMen.com article published last year. AskMen.com anticipates the Top 29 list will become a popular annual mainstay on the site.
