I’ve been listening to Amusement Parks On Fire for about a year now on the recommendation of a fellow music lover on VelvetRope.com. For those that aren’t familiar, head over to their MySpace to see the amount of noise these guys fit through a speaker, it is pretty literally MIND BLOWING. Seriously, take a listen before reading the rest of this post.
Ok, now that you’ve taken a listen, picture this band playing at the Silverlake Lounge, (or the Fold.. are we really calling it the Fold?) a venue about the size of your apartment (ok maybe two of your apartment.) I actually got a chance to talk to Brian Aubert from the Silversun Pickups and I asked him “are these guys really going to go full-on tonight?” Picture Nirvana (who APOF are often compared to, both visually and sonically) playing in a small club. It almost didn’t seem polite to assault this innocently small venue with a 3 guitar wall of sound attack, but it happened. I spent the set about 4 feet from the band and it inspired many OMG’s. Amusement Parks On Fire seriously blew the roof off the place and I would attend this show every night of the week if they were to do a residency in LA while they’re recording their upcoming EP (please do a residency.)
If I had seen any other band tonight this whole post would be about how I hung out in a small club with all of the members of the Silversun Pickups, but Amusement Parks On Fire really deserves as much space on this little blog as I can offer. APOF are definitely the band that I’ll be telling friends I saw with 50 or so other people at the Silverlake Lounge before they broke.
I do want to say though, that I got to meet Joe Lester, chief noisemaker of the Silversun Pickups in the men’s room. That was pretty awesome. I kept the conversation short because, well, how awkward is that?
