Ben Gibbard, Jenny Lewis and others to play the Actors’ Gang in Culver City (WTF indeed)

ben-gibbard-actors-guildFrom: TwentyFourBit:

Upcoming musical acts set to perform for 100 lucky ticket holders are Tenacious D (this Sat.!), Jackson Browne, System of a Down’s Serj Tankian, John Doe, Jill Sobule, Tom Morello, Jenny Lewis & friends, and Death Cab’s Ben Gibbard.

Actually, Gibbard is also cryptically listed as appearing with “friends,” which makes makes me wonder if his new wife, She & Him’s Zooey Deschanel, might show up for a little indie Sonny and Cher affair.

Because there are hip kids in Culver City too, and because actor Tim Robbins just can’t sit by and watch a theater close, Ben Gibbard, Jenny Lewis, Sarah Silverman (tonight), and many other names you’d never expect to see listed on the Actors’ Guild calendar are doing just that.  I snagged some tickets to Ben Gibbard this morning and there are A LOT of seats available right this second, but only 100 available, so you might want to head over here now: https://www.choicesecure01.net/mainapp/eventschedule.aspx?clientid=actorsgang

From the Actors’ Gang:

Ben Gibbard
Ben Gibbard, the lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie and The Postal Service, is performing a collection of his music on an intimate stage at The Actor’s Gang. Gibbard is also known for his project ¡All-Time Quarterback! and his first band, Pinwheel. His solo tour garnered rave reviews including the NY Times, “he has perfected his knack for writing and singing bittersweet love songs that sound bold and shy at the same time. The lovely melodies stick in your head, but the guy delivering them never makes a spectacle of himself.”

WTF is the WTF Festival?

“The name of this festival came to me after a recent board meeting where I was told that due to the economic downswing and recent reduction in donations that we can no longer afford to produce theater. I was told it would be less expensive to do nothing. We’re not very good at doing nothing.

We have 70 members and we are fired up to go into production on a major piece in January.

So in the spirit of rebellion and our history of survival, we are going to produce 3 plays, host great artists and authors, screen free documentaries, have open forums for Veterans, have live music nights with great songwriters, present poetry and dance, screen ridiculously funny movies, host talkbacks with directors and try to raise enough money to survive this crap economy.

We are offering a wide variety of events that will fire up new audiences, help them to discover The Gang, and support our community outreach.”
