Today is Student Recovery Day, which means the LA Unified School District will hit the streets looking for dropouts and attempt convince them to go back to school.
From ABClocal:
Hundreds of district officials, from Superintendent Ramon Cortines to lower officials, will hit the streets to find dropouts and convince them to return to class.
“We’re going to be going to students’ homes, we’re going to be phone banking, we’re going to be literally going door to door to try and find these students,” said LAUSD board member Steve Zimmer.
4LAKids gives more details:
If the student is not enrolled in school, help via support services will be offered to get that young person back on track towards graduation and a diploma. While a minor not attending school is technically a crime, the emphasis will be on the carrot of education and a better future rather than the stick of a citation and court date.
Party time is over kids, hit the books. Maybe by the time you get out we’ll have some jobs available. Maybe.
