I’m pretty sure I’ve shared my love of Hara Sushi‘s happy hour with everyone I know, but like an aging wine enthusiast, my pallette has matured. I miss the days when a $9 bottle of 3 Blind Moose would do just fine, as I miss the nights when I could walk out of Hara Sushi stuffed and spending under $20.
Growing up is rough.
Enter Kimuya, formerly Hakata at 2830 Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica. I’d checked it out when it first opened and it was a little uncomfortable. They didn’t have a liquor license yet (even though there was a sweet bar set up) and since it wasn’t too busy so I felt like we were being watched during our meal. Honestly I don’t even remember what the sushi tasted like because we just wanted to get out of there.
Well things have changed at 2830 Wilshire. Kimuya has an all you can eat menu option for $22.95 (lunch) and $26.95 (dinner.) Bud Light drafts are $2 during happy hour (until 7pm) other beers like Sapporo are $3. Prices don’t seem to go up much after happy hour. Check out the menu and keep in mind that the all you can eat menu includes all speciality rolls as well. Yeah, it was pretty exciting.
I make my living as a strategist, but clearly my strategic mind did not accompany me to Kimuya because we started off with the specialty rolls, which totally killed our appetites. Not to fear though, I’m a man that insists on getting my money’s worth and I’m pretty sure I made that happen.
We ate plenty of other things that weren’t as photogenic, our favorites being white tuna, albacore, and pictured above, the sweet shrimp and the oysters.
I’ll be back really soon. See you there?
