In the meantime, I, the “T” will share with you some observations I make about the entertainment we’re dished. To Tele & Film Universe (TOFU: Where you can get a side of estrogen with your entertainment) and beyond.
And yes, I know tofu only has plant estrogen, but go with it here.
Twit-Play and The Hollywood Mystery Crew
They probably wouldn’t save you if you got into a sticky situation in a dark alley. They’d probably run the other way. They don’t wear capes, that I know of, or that they tweet about. Their masks are their anonymous Twitter handles. Just like people get together now for “Cos-Play”, aka Costume Play, The Hollywood Mystery Crew hangs out online and engages in Twit-Play.
Identified every week with a #FF (#FollowFriday) shout-out by Scott Myers (@GoIntoTheStory) of The Black List, the crew is out there making observations about the entertainment industry and telling you things you were too afraid to ask and more.
@MysterySG75 became un-mysterious and put up a real photo of herself. @TempDiaries is infamous- having started The Brown List.
They’re different animals than say the @BronxZoosCobra who made the rounds on Twitter, writer unknown. The crew has never been caught, but the cobra was and has tapped out some tweets about its attempted escapes of late.
So they’re not The Avengers, but they’re a super group with the inside scoop on the inner workings of the Hollywood machine.
If they were creatures of the night, @MysteryExec would be the head vampire with his couple thousand followers and offer of a cool grand if you can call his office. He seems to have started it all. From looking at his tweets, you can easily tell he has a penchant for women and Chivas, these being his key words. Another mark of @MysteryExec is his hilarious faux self aggrandizement. Others pretend to self deprecate. @MysteryExec will #FF himself.
There are other mystery people besides the official gang, as designated by Myers. @BigBoss_Asst turned into @DevtHell when she got promoted to Creative Assistant. @Mystery_Jew is out there making tumblr pictures. @MaskedScheduler’s out there giving away posters to FOX shows. Speculation is fun. Will they ever reveal their identifies? We’ll have to wait and see.
Will they save us from fates like fading into the background in Los Angeles or being chewed up and spit out by the machine? Probably not, but they can give us insight into interactions between cogs and represent the archetypes of those like them. One thing they can assure is that they will have most of us wondering this:
Any guesses? Who is their Selina Kyle, Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne? You could get cash or script notes if you follow The Hollywood Mystery Crew and their clues to their real life alter egos…
They could be someone fetching you things, next to you in class, next to you in traffic, someone you’re pitching your show or film to. Look deep into the eyes of your neighbors and see if they’re hiding behind a stealthy Twitter name or not and then let us know.
Maybe someday someone will write a book about Twit-Play and make a big chart/tree about it. Hey, someone found out who JT LeRoy really was, so it can be done.
