Starting May 2nd 60 EMT’s in the Santa Clarita Valley will go on strike and the LA union is writing up its notice for its 300 members to go on strike.
EMTs who have been working more than a year typically receive $9.50 an hour said the Santa Clarita Valley newspaper, The Signal. There asking for better health coverage (EMT’s have crappy health coverage, go figure) and a 9% pay increase. It went on to say that “starting wages in that division are just substandard and non-livable“, no shit! Who can live afford to live in LA let alone CA making $20k a year to go our and save peoples lives on a daily basis.
I have two brothers who make $16/hr and $20/hr respectively stocking shelves at a grocery store and delivering mail for the USPS. Sure we need our food and mail, but we also need our lives. I am not much of a union guy, but hell, I say strike EMTs strike! I’ll throw you down some support!

I didn’t know EMT’s make so little. I mean, with all that training and all, how come they earn less than unskilled workers?

Doctors make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and EMT’s make nothing, that makes no sense to me at all.
