Santa Monica memorial day war memorial

The Snark Community would like to take this opportunity to thank the brave men and women serving in the US Armed Forces for their service to this country. As the US death toll in Iraq has now surpassed 4,000, we’d like to urge everyone to take a moment to reflect and remember those U.S. men and women who have died in military service to our country. Just North of the Santa Monica Pier an Iraq War Memorial has been set up with a cross for each fallen soldier. It’s very eerie feeling to behold.

Eerie is an understatement. Each of those crosses represents a real person, cut down in their prime. I did a bit of calulating for my blog a couple of days ago, and about 1.25 million American soldiers have died todate in war zones, including both sides in the Civil War.
