I’ve harped on and on about this band for about a year now, first begging them to come to LA, and then going to see them ahandful of times. Since listening to Smashing Pumpkins’ “Soma” I’ve been a big fan of the fuzzed-out wall of sound bands. Amusement Parks on Fire had a pretty awesome year in 2010 and I am glad to have witnessed a lot of it firsthand.

Very cool APOF! Click inside the video and drag left or right to change the angle. Wait a few seconds and the band members will start making their way into the shot.
FILTER US Recordings artists Amusement Parks On Fire teamed up with Social Animal to bring you their 360° interactive video for their tune, “Black Hole Kids.”
Directed by renowned photographer Piper Ferguson and produced by Social Animal, the clip puts the audience right in the middle of a 360° experience surrounded by the band performing!

Amusement Parks on Fire, one of my favorite bands in recent years, has released a video for the new single Flashlight Planetarium. The video was shot around the east side of LA and featured a live performance at Spaceland. I was in the front row for that show and I can almost make out my head bobbing around. Almost. I got to meet a couple of the guys and they were very cool.
I’ve been listening to Amusement Parks On Fire for about a year now on the recommendation of a fellow music lover on VelvetRope.com. For those that aren’t familiar, head over to their MySpace to see the amount of noise these guys fit through a speaker, it is pretty literally MIND BLOWING. Seriously, take a listen before reading the rest of this post.
Ok, now that you’ve taken a listen, picture this band playing at the Silverlake Lounge, (or the Fold.. are we really calling it the Fold?) a venue about the size of your apartment (ok maybe two of your apartment.) I actually got a chance to talk to Brian Aubert from the Silversun Pickups and I asked him “are these guys really going to go full-on tonight?” Picture Nirvana (who APOF are often compared to, both visually and sonically) playing in a small club. It almost didn’t seem polite to assault this innocently small venue with a 3 guitar wall of sound attack, but it happened. I spent the set about 4 feet from the band and it inspired many OMG’s. Amusement Parks On Fire seriously blew the roof off the place and I would attend this show every night of the week if they were to do a residency in LA while they’re recording their upcoming EP (please do a residency.)
If I had seen any other band tonight this whole post would be about how I hung out in a small club with all of the members of the Silversun Pickups, but Amusement Parks On Fire really deserves as much space on this little blog as I can offer. APOF are definitely the band that I’ll be telling friends I saw with 50 or so other people at the Silverlake Lounge before they broke.
I do want to say though, that I got to meet Joe Lester, chief noisemaker of the Silversun Pickups in the men’s room. That was pretty awesome. I kept the conversation short because, well, how awkward is that?
Fans of Silversun Pickups or My Bloody Valentine may have already heard of Amusement Parks On Fire, a supersonic band from the UK. “Venus In Cancer” (shown below) is a regular show starter on my iPod running mix, even though the odd time signature may cause me to run with an odd limp. Are there other US fans that would LOVE to see this band on our side of the pond? Call me hopeful and very lame, but the fact that Silversun Pickups have them ranked as their top friend on MySpace, with APOF returning the favor on their page, maybe we’ll get a chance to see Amusement Parks On Fire open for Silversun Pickups on their upcoming Swoon tour? Maybe?
