I spend a lot of time on San Vincente and it’s pretty rare to look down the road and see no cars at all. Usually an obvious lack of cars means there’s some sort of race happening, but sometimes you just catch a lucky break on an early Sunday morning. Lately I’ve been telling myself that I’m going to run the 2011 LA Marathon, so I’ve been logging a lot of miles on this strip. I’ve been doing laps around the Brentwood Country Club for a couple years now and it seems that I always see a recurring cast of characters, all of which I’ve given nicknames to. Sometimes you have to work your way around big fleets of wardrobe trailers when a movie is shooting at the country club, you often have to sidestep kids that are making their way to Brentwood Science School, and the food truck guys always give you that “Why are you running around a golf course when you could be eating one of my delicious tacos?” look. I’ve thought about creating a social network that lets people that run laps around the Brentwood Country Club communicate with each other like “Heads up: That dumpster on Gretna Green smells extra nasty today,” but there’s something nice about maintaining your anonymity and passing the same strangers by again and again.

It is my opinion that the Brentwood could use a little more policing outside of protecting celebrities. Cheers to the Brentwood Police for catching Maria Shriver while driving with a cell phone, but I rarely go for a run through Brentwood without being hit by an entitled spaceshot driver in a Mercedes or SUV. Wake up Whitetown, what’s in those lattes anyway?

Just got back from the Brentwood Farmers Market, like a majority of the Farmers markets in LA, it’s small, but this one was packed with stalls, maybe 100+ all together. Additionally it’s a great place for a star sighting as I saw Justin Timbelake and Jessica Biel there buying gourmet candy. It’s very kids friendly as it’s right in of a Brentwood elementary school which leaves it’s playground open for the kids to take a break. 1/2 is food and the other half is made up of clothing, crafts, etc. It’s located at S Gretna Green Way and San Vicente Blvd in Brentwood and a great place to spend a few hours.

Why can’t people drive or walk down this street like everyone else drives or walks down the street? First there’s the aggro power walkers, and then this jackass cuts me off and decides to make mocking hand gestures at me. He then started shifting lanes back and forth so that I couldn’t pass.
Former Bostonian driving skills won out when I was able to get around him and then refuse to let him pass. Take that 5mpn438.
PS you look like a soccer mom in that thing.

So The Girl and I got up early from our West LA headquarters and decided to head up to San Vincente in Brentwood and walk down to City Bakery. City Bakery was great, 1000′s of calories were ingested, but then burned again on the walk home.
Here’s the thing about Brentwood: These people are different. My previous example of a Brentwood resident was OJ Simpson, and he seemed like a nice enough guy. But there are some entitled peoples living up here. The worst of which being the ladies that strap on their sweat pants and ridiculous hats and rudely say “EXCUSE ME” to other people she’s trying to brisk-walk past. If you see this lady on San Vincente walking down the dirt pathy by the Brentwood Country Club, steer clear, she is a handful. Good luck red shorts guy.

Early World may technically be in Los Angeles, being on the south side of San Vincente and all, but if you’re in and around Brentwood you may be tempted to stop in here. [Keep reading…]
