I will skip my obligatory skeletons in the closet joke and get straight to the WTFs: A MacArthur Park building manager and tenant were poking around in a former ballroom/now storage room. When they opened the chests they found cool treasures like a crystal dish, old clothes, and old books. THEN:
“I saw something not very pleasant and very unusual,” she said. “It didn’t have any shape to it. But it seemed like a dried-out body.”
“The first thing I thought was the spirits,” she added. “Maybe we disturbed the spirits.” Xing, 35, a geneticist at USC, said she thought it may have been the remains of a miscarried baby.
“She said, ‘Can we bury it?,’” Gomez said. “And I said, ‘No, we call the police.’”
LAPD Chief Charlie Beck has promised to launch a “vigorous” investigation into the infants’ deaths, which they believe to have occurred 70 years ago.
It sounds insane, and something Hollywood movies (starring Angelina Jolie?) are made of, but it’s real: http://www.latimes.com/news/la-basement-babies-m,0,2775470.story
